Petra Falkenberg

Petra likes to call herself a "bridge builder“ and offers skills as translator, researcher, communicator and guide as well as project manager.

Petra is in her element when she can serve as mediator between languages, cultures, mindsets or just people. Equipped with a diploma as translator and interpreter (for English and Russian) acquired at Leipzig University she has worked as in-house translator, interpreter and consultant for international and cultural affairs for various (East) German institutions including the East German writers’ union. From 1990 until 2007 she was office manager and news assistant for the Berlin bureau of the Los Angeles Times.

Today Petra is free-lancing as translator, editorial and media assistant for foreign publishers. In recent years she has been on various research assignments for international media and authors and has done reporting and fact checking for book projects. Besides her linguistic skills, Petra’s clients appreciate her inherent curiosity, tenacity and accuracy as well as her organizational talents.

Being a great fan of German and foreign literature as well as of the movie and theatre scene at home and abroad Petra likes to monitor trends of art and culture and engages in consulting and fundraising work for culture projects. She for instance helped founding the non-profit translation project www.balticsealibrary.com, a digital multi-language anthology of literary works from the region around the Baltic Sea.

As self-confessed locally-patriotic Berliner, close observer and profound connoisseur of cultural life, sights and attractions of her hometown and environs Petra also offers interested visitors guided tours and explorations.
